Tis the season for spring cleaning! Now is the best time to get outside and give your roof a little TLC, and we’ve got some tips on how to help you do that!
1. Clean Your Gutter
We’ve discussed this one before, but as always one of the first steps in maintaining your roof is to clear out the gutters. Throughout fall and winter your gutters collect debris like leaves, dirt and moss, all of which builds up and creates blockage. Take note of the condition of your gutters as well. If there are signs of wear and tear, you’ll want to get them repaired right away.
2. Examine Your Roof
Take a step back and look at your roof from the ground. Do you see gaps? Loose shingles ready to fly off? Moss or mold? If you see any of these things, call a professional to come and repair your roof right away. Fixing the problem promptly will help reduce any further damage to your roof.
3. Trim Your Trees
Put simply, hanging tree branches are accidents waiting to happen for your roof. They not only pose huge risks during storms, but can be hazardous at any time. Trimming back the vegetation near your roof will help protect it from future damage, and will also help cut down on the debris the can get stuck in gutters and cover your roof’s surface.
4. Check Out Your Attic
The inside of your roof is just as important as the outside. Check for any signs of water or mold damage in the attic of your home or on the ceilings. If you see any staining or smell mildew, that’s a pretty good sign that your roof might have a problem. Mold and water damage can seriously compromise the structural integrity of your roof, so it’s important to get it taken care of right away.
